One of the questions I heard most often from commenters was: “if Techstars is an example of a failed accelerator, what does a good one look like?” This post is an effort to unpack what’s required of a startupaccelerator to truly serve the needs of high-performing founders. This has not been our experience.
By way of a definition, a business or startup incubator is a company, university, or other organization which provides resources to nurture young companies, helping them to survive and grow during the startup period when they are most vulnerable.
Even to outsiders, the inner workings of startupaccelerators has become familiar: pumped up on camaraderie and energy drinks, scrappy founders do product demos onstage before a room full of buzzy journalists and investors.
