There were a lot of requests for us to turn our mentorship program into a physical accelerator with a fund, office space and full-time staff. Startup accelerators are increasingly putting the brakes on demo days. But demo day isn’t a good use of founders’ or investors’ time. Many VCs who sign deals with the top startups from YC actually do so before demo day. Demo day dilutes investor engagement. Demo days are performative.
