When mHub opened its doors in Chicago seven years ago, the vision was to create a traditional incubator for people making things. It would involve a prototyping lab, offices, shared workspaces, meeting rooms and classrooms. mHub supports startups both through its incubator and its accelerator program.

One failure mode for less effective accelerators, and even more so for the related “studio” or “incubator” model, is to pretend that people who otherwise would not be founders can be coached into the role with sufficient time and scaffolding. A good accelerator concentrates and focuses the energy of people who “can’t not” be founders.

Impact Hub

The effort inspired many similar successful initiatives around the Impact Hub world like the CadaDiaCuenta Hackathon with 18 participating countries in Latin America, or the Swiss #VersusVirus with 263 teams and their follow up incubation program. The pandemic has only made us stronger, brought us closer together, and reinforced our energy.
