New ways of doing things had to be created and implemented, and we found in those early months the value in having an entrepreneurial mindset in everything we do, not just business. Despite many small businesses closing their doors in 2020, the pandemic nevertheless brought an increase in entrepreneurial spirit.

As we foster the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems, it’s important to design them to level the playing field for women. We can’t claim to be building inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems unless we address the lack of investment resources available to women and minority business-owners. Plenty of initiative.

After collectively witnessing many of our main street and small businesses across the country close in 2020, there arose a new sense of appreciation for the value entrepreneurs bring to our communities and our economy. Our network grew in number and impact in 2021. You don’t always appreciate what you have until it’s gone.

Cultivate an inclusive network with culturally competent support. If they don’t have access to networks of support, they might not move forward with their business idea.
