In Bay Ridge, The Art Room is a store front fine arts school for kids and represents the tip of the iceberg in storefront education centers. Perhaps the most widely known example that touches the tech community is General Assembly --almost 30,000 square feet.
General Assembly isn''t really a coworking company. It''s been an education business for quite a while now, if you haven''t noticed--and it''s a business they''re damn good at. By professionalizing startup education in NYC, GA has made a huge impact in the community. GA isn''t any better at coworking than anywhere else.
To effectively support any entrepreneur, you must develop an infrastructure of resources in your community. After working with over 100 communities, we know that resources tend to cluster around the type of entrepreneur served and stage of business. Early-stage entrepreneurs, like all entrepreneurs, have their own set of unique needs.

We ‘ve continued to see the proliferation of coworking in lobbies, apartment buildings, hotels, retail spaces and pretty much anywhere. We also believe that if connection can cure addiction then community (read: coworking) can help solve the loneliness epidemic. They need space that they choose. Community 2.0.
Community organizations like Shine & Rise provide support and mentorship to women who work at tech companies, and coworkingspaces like Cahoots offer dedicated tech entrepreneurial spaces for the community. This was big news for the Ann Arbor tech community, and a huge move for Llamasoft.
Silje had a vision for a space that would invite interactions between unlikely allies in the name of creativity and innovation. The coworkingspace opened its doors in September 2011, as the first of its kind in Norway. Today, Impact Hub Bergen has grown into a community of more than 50 entrepreneurs and changemakers.

The tech community has been having a long-overdue conversation about mental health and work/life balance and it’s something I’ve been talking up as far back as 2006 , 2009 , and 2014 on my blog and in public. When women do it, they don’t get to stick around long enough to see if their company is successful enough to warrant a biography.
